100 things challenge: Dick Clark

Apr 18, 2012 19:42

I had been thinking about my subject for this blog challenge for about a week now (since I saw it come across my flist). And after an announcement I knew I had decided on the right subject in the first place. I was debating between two choices, but the mention of Dick Clark all over Twitter, facebook, tumblr, and dozens of news sources like CBS, MSN, AOL, and by now, basically any you can think of, settled the debate for me.

Dick Clark. A name synonymous with pop culture and mainstream media. A name that lingers in places most people don't even realize, right in front of their faces.

I first heard the name in elementary school, getting a lesson about none other than American Bandstand. The music had me captivated and from that point on, I was in love with what I realized was some of the greatest music to ever hit the charts. And the iconic name popped up again and again all through my life, in new and old media alike. Radio. TV. Special events. Producer. Host. American icon for generations to come.

I'll leave the endless pages of bio to the press already publishing (which I highly recommend you check out a few of), but I figured Dick Clark was a great starting point for me to launch into many more pop culture and media blurbs. (99 more of them, to be precise)
