Well, you have a bit of an issue to deal with. We're right at the cusp of the major change in the industry and if you buy a current (DX9) graphics card you'll probalby end up kicking yourself. Honesly I want to tell you to get one of the 8xxx cards.

The only problem with getting an 8xxx card is that the first of them won't be released for a couple of weeks and the only ones part of the initial launch are the high end ones (AKA expensive). The lower end cards (Which are still going to be absurdly awesome) won't be released for while (I don't remember if I can say how long so I just won't).

If you want something truly kick ass grab an 8800 when they launch in a few weeks. If you want something lower end I suggest you drop $40 (or as little as you reasonably can) on a REALLY crappy card to hold you over until the lower end 8xxx cards come out.

The high end 8xxx cards will probably be $400+ the lower end will probably be $150+

i did that last year.

pentium d 820, xp pro, plus photoshop and premiere elements

it was a good deal, but i hate intel and kind of regret it.

p.s. if you want help building it (it won't ship till probably january) i've got some experience with building. but not with vista. the beta we had when i worked at geek squad was pretty shitty and wouldn't dual boot properly
