So My car makes it through the hurricane just fine. It was doing just fine or so I thought. But alas, I was on my way to see Kista and *sputter Sputter- Shake - Shimmy* My engine seizes up and I'm stuck in some drugged up red neck part of auburdale. So Kista comes and rescues me, we get it towed to the nearest Chevy dealership by crazy tow truck ( Read more... )

Wait, what exactly did he say was wrong with your car? O.o I've been attempt-swindled and had to have enough work on my various ones to have learned a little..

Hey Becca, he said that there was a spring in the engine that broke and it bent a valve which was preventing one of the cylanders from keeping pressure in it. He said that they would have to take the whole engine apart to fix it and there may be even more damage inside that they don't know about yet. Grr.. I hope they werent trying to con me, i mean they are an official chevy dealership after all. I dunno.

First of all, getting your car fixed at a dealership is -bad-, because they'll overcharge you like mad. I used to take my car to one of those Ice Cold Air places, they were always really nice, would take a look at the problem initially for free, and explain things in easy-to-understand layman's terms. It's kinda against their rules, but they used to even let me go in and watch them work on it, too :P Plus they don't charge obscenely for labor ( ... )

Yeah, I know the dealership charges outragously for stuff like that but I had no choice. when i broke down in auburndale i didnt want to pay $200 to have it towed back to tampa, and i didnt trust mechanics in redneckville that i didnt know, so the closest reliable place was the dealership. I knew at least that they knew their chevys. I've used ice cold air a few times and yes the labour is quite cheap and they seemed to do an ok job but last time i took it to them they couldnt figure out what the deal was with it and the mechanic pulled me to the side and said that he suggested i take it to a better reputable shop in town because he'd had bad experiences bringing his own car there. that doing any work other than standard oil changes and such that they are just as expensive as other places and dont know as much as other mechanics as far as diagnostics. he said they really didnt like to keep cars longer than a day there. So being that their mechanic told me this i didnt really trust that they would know what was wrong with it this time ( ... )

Thanks for all your energy support, I really think it makes a world of difference. Actually today we found out that Sue is doing much better. It turned out to be a mild bleed and she didnt suffer any repercussions other than she's confused sometimes and it trying to put her cognitive thoughts in the right order. I think she will be ok with therapy and a neurologist.

Oh anonymous one, thank you for your encouraging words. I'm trying to hang in there, I know I'll find a light somewhere in the tunnel I'm just getting antsy waiting here in the dark.
