The Book Faeries - December Edition

Dec 12, 2009 14:39

I think I'm going to make this a regular monthly feature. Most times it's to say thank you to the really kind people whom I've gotten books from (the ones I refer to as, the book faeries), but this edition of Book Fairy is mostly thanks to myself and TJ from Book Love Affair who introduced me to a website that sells nothing but Bargain books. I really want to get my hands on Lilith's Brood - Amazon has a nice paperback that I've got my eye on.

I have the mass market paperback of the Bernard Cornwall book - is yours spelt "Agincourt"? Mine is Azincourt", which I've never seen before. Haven't read it yet so I don't know the historical significance of the different spelling. If my mum was around, I'd ask her - she's a real history buff!

I skipped the Simon & Schuster giveaway - I couldn't see any books I'd even heard of, so I decided not to bother. Plus I'm always late to their giveaways and have only once managed to scrape through the door and score a book!

Both work, but I believe yours is similar to the UK edition, which has it spelled with a "z".

I tried looking it up once, but have forgotten the significance! The French spelling has it with a "z" since that is the name of the town the battle took place. I'd think that spelling is technically more accurate, but was switched for American readers since apparently, it's assumed we never know how to pronounce or recognize anything if it's left in its original form. :p

I saw the hardcover on BookCloseouts and was planning on purchasing the paperback anyway (I read his Saxon Chronicle novels and loved them) at the end of the year, but figured, for less than the price of the trade, why not get the hardcover? :D

I usually try to enter their Giveaways, but feel greedy since they send me review copies anyway. All the books I wanted to snag on this one were taken first, but this one looked like a good (non-boring) history book on the crusades and that interested me. :)
