Dear Snowpocolypse...

I should really know better. I shouldn't let the oil get so low. And to have had the snowblower serviced before the winter. I should be a little better prepared.

Luckily, we managed. Over the first storm, we lowered the temperature to 62F, lit a fire and kept it going, baked bread, made soup, did all sorts of things to keep the furnace from firing so we wouldn't be completely without heat.

The snowblower managed, but needed a lot of patience. 5 hours worth.

I didn't sleep a lot, waking up and listening for the heat. It's no fun watching your house grow cold.

Then the next day, the oil guy arrived. I don't know how little oil was in the tank, but it was enough that even with the infusion, the tank wasn't full. And with a new belt, the trusty snowblower, she's blowin' as good as ever. So I'm better prepared. I've learned my lesson. I'm sorry. I won't let it happen again.

Out in the 'burbs, there's generally room to put the snow. Just take it easy on the city. They live cheek by jowl on the best days. 4 feet of snow in a week is just excessive. I don't mind even 6 feet in a season, but space it out a bit. Melt some of it. Then cover up all the slush with a fresh, white blanket.

That said, the snow days have been fun. The kids can swim through the stuff. We've make cakes and cookies and worked on school projects and watched movies. Some good times. So it's been good. Now if you could just talk the kids into more skiing now that the snow is here, that'd be great.
