After Asimov's stunningly fast turnaround to reject "Fratham" (24 days from the day I mailed it out to the day the SASE got back to me), I have given it to The Boy to read and help me hash out a new title. Over the weekend I got a form rejection letter from Asimov's for "Fratham." Darn it, this story deserves better than that! Now I have to figure out where to send it next. Probably F&SF or Baen's

 I always feel strangely good after a Clarkesworld rejection. Elated, almost. I imagine it's similar to what someone feels after losing a fight in Fight Club. It doesn't matter that you lost - only that you didn't wind up sobbing on the floor, begging for mercy. You walked away proud of your blood and bruises ( Read more... )

And I can't even start bugging any of the editors for responses yet, as their posted response time has not elapsed. The soonest one is not until April 28. Because I like pain, I sent another story to Clarkesworld to be rejected. My last rejection from them was grand and thorough and, above all, brutally honest. Mr. Mamatas is rather infamous for that. Thus my suprise when the following rejection appeared a few days later:
