Has anyone seen the 'latest' ff.net policy? No song lyrics in fiction. It's called a SONGFIC ( Read more... )

I still fail to see a difference though. I doubt muso's would be worried about someone using their lyrics in some silly fanfic - they're more worried about people who are covering their songs and not paying to do so (since they're making money from it and not giving royalties.) Or, like you said, people that are downloading their music and not paying for it.

If there are any really psychotic artists, like the nutso authors (let's include Anne McCaffrey in this list. I don't like her :S) then they can have their stuff removed. There are probably a lot of artists who enjoy free publicity, though, just like the series out there.

I think a more effective solution (on ff.net's part) would to be to insist on disclaimers, however pointless they are. It's like...a reference. I don't think fanfiction would be considered 'fair use' but there you go. At least there is acknowledgement of source.

FF.net are beyond a joke. Megs got a story deleted because someone who didn't like the fact that she split Mao and Rei up reported her for false rating. It was a PG... the most extreme thing that happened in it was two guys hugging... in a friendly way.
But, like I have always feared, they deleted it without a second glance. Obviously, they don't ever go to the trouble of checking that the rating is correct, meaning that anyone nasty enough could get many fictions deleted purely out of personal distaste.
Come to think on it though, this means that my Stockholm Syndrome is now breaching company policy.
Damn them.

No!!! Stockholm Syndrome is like the coolest fic! They can't take it down!

But I TOTALLY know what you mean. FF.net are so scared of the few whiners, they just do whatever they say. So if for some reason someone doesn't like you, they can just make something up and report you for it. FF.net don't want other people complaining, and can't be bothered getting into arguments, so they just take fics down or ban people. The same thing happens on Neopets ALL the time.

This is why I don't get into things on ff.net anymore. I don't review; I don't even read fics anymore. I don't want to draw attention to myself.

I still orbit around and drop things in, though I am immensely tired of 'this story is good. Update now.'

My latest is a one shot and all three reviews were just 'Update!' Damn it, stupid children.

I certainly hope that SS isn't homed in on. If it does, then I probably will just give up. That fiction epitomises my writing I feel. They're like bloody facists.

Mou, I am victim of their stupidity but that's just taking it way too far. I can't think of why song fics would bother them. It's like a disclaimer, when you use lyrics you say who they are from and take no credit.

This is beyond upsurd. Don't tell me they shall start going through their archives for songfics because almost every author has used some form of lyric in their writing.

I'm tempted to give up with their stupidity. If you don't conform, you get banned and as it is now- I can't take another strike from them.

Soon they shall ban poetry...it seems as if the sites destruction is inevitable now.

I'm confused. Does this mean we can't quote famous writers like Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde either??? Quotes fit in with the "if you didn't write it, don't post it" policy. >____>

Yesh. This is exactly what I mean! Some things are considered 'famous' enough that it's almost okay to quote them. Like the speech "I have a dream..." or...the song American Pie.

Ff.net are just stupid.
