Ok the filming for part of the play involving kids is DONE, and it couldn't have happened sooner. The kids had gotten so far out of line, that even the director had had enough of them.
Back ground info:
The play that we're doing is called "The Girl who Lived", it's a play based on the book about the only person to have survived the nazi gas chambers. The Girl was 15 at the time, she was discovered by the Jews cleaning out the bodies after a gassing and they hid her. Sadly she was caught and shot a month later.
The play is a multi-media expirence, taking the viewer on a journey of the girls life through a Stage performance entwined with four digital movies called: "Ich Liebe den Furher pt1, Aschwicz Faireytail, Ichliebe den Furher pt2 and Under den Linden.
The kids started out good, but I think the day just got too long for everyone, the director didn't have a clear idea on what to do and me being thrown in on just about every job has been taxing to say the least. Sadly I fell into my jobs due to other staff members' family passing away (just yesterday the head crew member lost both his brother and uncle in a car crash).
Add to this, the stress of launching our company, called Bridging the Gap Youth Productions (BTG for short). The aim of BTG is to provide a place where young people can learn stage performance before moving on to places such as NIDA or University level drama. The launch is being handled by a wonderful woman whom I love dearly but think she has lost sight of the real issues, personally I think she may be looking at this as being a way out of teaching in a high school that is not known for its gratitude toward its teachers.
This play has hit me hard in the fact that I had family members on both sides of the fence during the war. I have told the cast this and some were not really sure about it. But after some checking of facts and filkes they found out that I did indeed have family there. Some of the kids were an absolute pleasure to work with, but there arealways some who destroy it. One girl who's done a course at NIDA, thought she was the best, she even impossed herself as Assistant Director. At first we thought that she wanted to be with the director (a 15y/o girl idolising a 23y/o male, usually happens). The story is far different, in actual fact what she wanted was to oust the Director claiming that she could do better. She does indeed need taking down a peg, but the director has decided to distance himself from her, not telling her when meetings are being held, not conversing with her about the next sceen set up and stuff like that. She has woken up to it, and is not happy about it, but she'll get over it...!
As for the director, he's relied on me very heavily lately and tonight confided in me stuff that I'm not really sure I should know. In anycase i am glad that he is listening to me finally, I did tell him that 8 months to get a play on the road is far too short, and what is more suprising is that he has said sorry for his arogance in the begining, I was right and now he's suffering for it. In anycase, it is good to know that I am apreciated by those that really do matter!
