NEW VID: About Schroeder

Oct 31, 2007 21:50

This vid has a very long story behind it, which I've posted here. I highly recommend reading that before watching for the full experience. The short version: I watched Farscape in sekrit and made chickwithmonkey a birthday present. Because she's my favorite.

You are really really insane. But also really really talented.

It's a lovely vid and everything you were trying to say came across loud and clear to me.

(and yay to have you playing in one of my fandoms!)

I loved this. For one thing, it's neat to see you do such a slow, thoughtful, understated vid, since that's not your usual style (as far as I'm aware). Which is perfect for Farscape, because it's so visually expressive. And I have a huuuuuge soft spot for unrequited John/Chiana; again, I think it's pretty understated in the series (it didn't really hit me strongly until Chiana has sex with John's younger self in "Kansas"; I just remember thinking, oh, man, she's in love with him, isn't she, and that's the only way she'll ever get him), and it's not Big Tragic, because Chi does have D'Argo and he's certainly no consolation prize. But it's there, I think, in the background, and you captured the wistfulness of that aspect of their relationship really well, as well as the genuine warmth between them, and the fascinating/frightening thing that is John's obsession. And OMG I can't believe you watched Farscape! I can't wait to hear what you thought. :)

Okay, I know I already said once that your opinion kind of held weight with me (YOU KNOW, JUST A LITTLE), but it bears repeating when I'm a puddle of mush from your response.

And a big pile of YES to everything you said about John/Chiana. I'm a John/Aeryn shipper as much as the next person, but I really love J/C's relationship (whether it be UST, sibling rivalry, whatever). I think I would've been just as drawn to it even if I hadn't gone in with the specific intention of vidding it. You really summed it all up so well, and it's so nuanced and just there. It was fun to take scattered moments throughout the series and condense them like this into one big pile of emoslush.

For one thing, it's neat to see you do such a slow, thoughtful, understated vid, since that's not your usual style (as far as I'm aware).

Heeeee. TOTALLY not my style. It was challenging! (Did I mention the six drafts part?) But it makes me all the more excited for my big Farscape vid idea (AHEM) that is very much the opposite end of the spectrum.

And OMG I can't ( ... )

I love the vid because it's exactly what I see, and I love it because you made it, and I love it because it feels so right, and now I love it even more because you're describing things I saw but didn't realize I was seeing. I'm going to want to watch it over and over.

I'm thrilled that not only did you like the show, you saw what I saw in the song and the pairing. (But you really would have gone with the different ending?) You're incredible, and I love you so much.

The fact that you love it so much makes it all the more rewarding a process, if that's possible. I feel a little silly now for being so scared you'd hate it, but it's just testament to how much I wanted to get it right for you.

To repeat what I said in my email (in case anyone else reading is curious), I probably would've gone with the "happier" ending simply because there were more clips leaning that way and it was the easier way out with the deadline approaching. But now that I've done it your way, I'm so glad I asked and I'm so glad you told me. The vid's better this way, and I'm one step further along in becoming a better vidder for rising to the challenge. Thank you for that.

I love you so much.

Have I mentioned yet how gorgeous this vid is?

I think my favorite part might be those pans through Moya over the piano. I totally get the sense of space you were going for, but at the same time...

To me, it spoke most of the 'mom-ness' of Moya, the way she's always watching over everything they do on that ship. It's one of the things I love so much in the show. They didn't do any of the cheesy or obvious things to make the ship seem alive (having her talk, etc.), yet somehow just with the colors and lighting and sounds you always had that feeling in the scenes aboard ship. Of being never quite alone, in a comforting way, y'know?

Have I mentioned yet how pleased I am that you enjoyed it so much?

The pans through Moya were the first thing I really latched onto when I was storyboarding it in my head. I'm glad they translated well visually and served the purpose I was going for. Yay! *hugs you*

Ooh, I really like your thoughts on Moya. You're totally right. I'm going to keep all that in mind when I do my rewatch.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

This vid is really beautiful. It's so soft and sad, full of Chiana's desire to be seen while also using her much-overlooked willingness to be still for someone else. She's usually so full of movement and vibrancy, and it's neat to see a vid that focuses on the other side of her, the parts that she keeps hidden. I loved it!

Oh honey, yay! *hugs you tight* I hoped it kind of lived up to my WAY HYPERACTIVE SQUEE at your house, hehe.

You touched on something that I hadn't quite connected in my head but makes perfect sense. My favorite thing about Gigi's portrayal is how she used movement in the role, and I did focus very specifically on Chiana being still. I'm surprised I hadn't put that together until now. Thank you! :-)

I'm so pleased you liked this. Really. (Did I mention yet that I couldn't have done it without you? Just checking.) Thank you so, so much.

I give Gigi such huge acting props for creating that unique movement for Chiana. Chiana was the first main character we saw who moved like an alien. (In fact I think she's the only one who really commited to that choice.) It was a brave choice and could have really backfired, but instead it made Chiana this beautiful vibrant creature who could never hide what she was feeling because if her eyes or voice didn't give her away, her body certainly would!

I have shamelessly stolen her Chiana movement for several projects, or at least let it inspire me. I freakin' LOVE physical acting and bold choices! Go Gigi!
