I may come back and post more recs later; I am hesitant to promise that. But I can strongly recommend these for sure!
My Personal Favorite Vids of the Con:
- Premieres Intro Vid (multi) by Greensilver
YES I AM RECCING THE INTRO VID. Because it is AMAZING. I was expecting the standard "don't _____" rules intro vid with hilariously animated llamas, and instead we got THIS. It stands on its own in concept and execution, but you have to also imagine what it was like to watch this large in the dark room as you're heading into the Premieres show. It was MAGICAL. I got chills and was grinning like an idiot.
- Barton Hollow (Homeland) by Eunice
This vid is visually stunning, full of delicious layers of narrative, and absolutely compelling from start to finish. Arguably the strongest vid (as a whole) from this year's con, in my opinion.
- Possession (Legend of the Seeker) by bradcpu
This vid is absolutely gorgeous, and was a huge highlight of Premieres for me. Beyond my shallowness of girl-kissing = MAJOR YAY, it's just a visual feast in every way. I've spent some time trying to parse out the specific POV shifts in the vid, which are not always clear, but I think I have it now! At the same time, the combination of this song with these characters means that it could be multiple things and still work, heh. This is going on my "rewatch frequently" list.
- Everything is Wrong (Community) by Laura Shapiro
This vid makes me so happy! Possibly my very favorite of Laura's vids, ever. It's so full of heart, both on-screen and off. She balances the variety of tones in the vid very well, as well as the Britta vs ensemble nature of it. Not a misstep in the whole thing. A stand-out from Premieres.
- The Adventure (Harry Potter) by Greensilver
Oh hey, maybe you heard there was a Neville vid this year. Probably not, though. Everyone hated it and nobody cried. You should try it just to see how crappy it is. *kicks Jen over*
- Say Aha (Aliens) by Absolute Destiny
This vid ROCKS. It is just fantastically kinetic and delicious. It starts out moving and only builds from there just when you think there can't be anywhere bigger to go. Another standout from Premieres for me. It was incredible on the big screen with the beat pulsing through the speakers. Also, I really need to rewatch these films.
Other Things Not to Be Missed:
- Let Me Put My Love Into You (Bitch Slap) by sweetestdrain
People who have not seen this movie are possible unsure what to do with this vid. But let me tell you: LOVE IT. Embrace it. For it is badass, and the movie is absolutely amazing crack, and I heart them both.
- Anything For Love (Thor, meta) by Astolat and Speranza
What fan hasn't known that feeling when your friend is pulling you kicking and screaming into something new, and then you let your guard down because, yeah, you totally want to go there. This had us howling.
- Summer of 69 (Doctor Who) by Greensilver
This vid gives me Ponds Feels. I don't often get those, but now I have ALL OF THEM. Also, brilliant use of the lyrics to make the show's complicated family ties not so difficult to understand! Love. This. Vid.
- Starships (multi) by bironic
So fun! Literal starships! ALL of the starships! Flying and shooting things and being awesome! This vid has a slow build but the payoff is terrific.
- I'm Gonna Be (Glee) by Milly
Rachel Berry vid! Full of joy and drive and feels! ♥
- Ride to California (Avengers) by bradcpu
I know, I'm legitimately as stunned as you that I'm reccing Avengers, but this vid is very pretty and actiony and looks cool! You should check it out.
- The Royal We (Hunger Games) by bradcpu
I clearly hated Brad's vids this year. This one is no exception. Don't miss it.
- That's Not My Name (Fringe) by rhoboat
A very clever and delightful Astrid vid! Yay!
- Jag Svar (meta) by lunate8 and friends
OMG Someone remade "I Swear" in live action! ♥ This killed at the con.
- How I Got Over (The Wire) by here's luck
A heartbreaking vid about The Wire season 4, which focused on the kids of the streets of Baltimore.
- A Different Kind of Love Song (fandom) by giandujakiss
A fun look at fandom in fandom. It makes me smile every time.
