With you on my mind and my heart held in your hands
screaming, break me

I found this song earlier this year after digging through some City and Colour mp3 previews on Amazon. beerbad got me into his song "Day Old Hate" (a totally heartbreaking Starbuck song, btw), and I was equally pleased to find this. I love that it's such a simple song yet it has so many complexities in it. The unusual structure (verse, chorus, same verse, chorus as bridge, end!) made a great choice for vidding, I felt. It's unpredictable and interesting. I chopped about a minute of instrumental out of it but left the overall structure in tact.

I found the move in the Blockbuster pre-viewed DVDs several years ago and picked it up because it had a great cast and, let's face it, I seem to have a thing for quadrangles. *facepalm* It's a pretty decent indie film, and it had been on my "to vid" list for a little while. Upon finding the song, it was a bit of a no-brainer to put them together. I hoped the vid woud come together fairly easily, and it did. With several very ambitious vids up next in my queue, this was a nice way to get my mojo flowing again and boost my annual output a smidge.

I know this vid has no audience, but it's okay! I made it for me. It's very much Love Turns 40 v2.0, and I'm okay with that; I still wanted to see it. I was able to take what I learned with that vid (omg so much) and apply it here, which heavily expedited the process. (LT40 took a year, this took a week.) I don't think it's necessarily a better vid, but I do think my process was a lot better. I think my instincts are a lot better now than they were 3 years ago, or at least I hope they are. I relied heavily on three things I feel are my strengths (motion, narrative, and pacing). I wanted to keep the vid simple -- no POV changes, no effects, just straight cuts that tell the story -- and use the gorgeous cinematography as much as possible. All the stillness was something I could use to my advantage narratively.

Sidenote: the opening shot of the 4 actors is literally the only shot in the movie where you can see all four of them. It was the first clip I laid down.

All feedback and recs are greatly appreciated. Thanks for watching!
