"I'd give you my phone number and e-mail, but it's not safe for you to have them. And...if anyone ever shows up looking for me, you never heard my name." He met her eyes seriously. "Promise?"
She hugged him back. "I'll try, but trouble seems to find me despite myself. And who will politely try to take care of me and tuck me into bed when I show up completely not myself? Or rescue me from trolls?"
"I have faith that you can rescue yourself, Lana, the same way you kept me from going insane while I was in captivity," he told her, "but if you ever need me, I may be around. World's a big place, you know?"
"And you all the best here, or wherever you end up going afterwards," he hugged her again, then leaned down to whisper, "Sometimes I wish I hadn't been such a gentleman." Then he moved to kiss her on the temple.
Her eyes widened at his words and she let him kiss her temple, thinking how she wanted to respond. "Thank you," she said, smiling up at him softly. "Sometimes I wish you hadn't been either."
She leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. "But life is what it is and I am grateful for my time with you and our friendship."
