What does a good relationship look like?

I realised the other day that I have no idea.  I've never had the opportunity to see one in action, not for more than a few hours at a time.  What's it like just to be happy?  What do you do?  What do you talk about?  How do you get a grip on it when there's no friction?

My parents split up when I was two years old, and living with my mother and stepfather, there were rows every week.  My grandparents seemed happy, but, since my grandad died, I've realised just how much of her personality my grandmother repressed for that, so I don't really want to take that as a model, either.  People on TV tend to be horrible to each other, for the sake of humour, and it just doesn't work in real life.

So, yeah.  What does a good relationship look like?  One where you're not always rowing, or resentful, and without there being a huge distance between you?
