^ there's an article about a black family with a white adopted daughter. It's a very interesting read, but I'm disturbed by the way the journalist attributes everything to racism. Apparently, the family get odd looks when they act like parents to the little girl, for instance, watching her in a park, or telling her off in a supermarket. Sometimes, people have followed them out of a store to see if they're kidnapping her, or asked if she's okay, despite her parents being next to her. The family report that they don't receive these reactions when caring for their natural children.

I'm failing to see how that's racist. If you see a little girl who's almost definitely not related to the people taking care of her, you are going to give them odd looks (even if just in your head), and wonder if she's okay, and if the situation is all right. It's not racism - it's just not being used to interracial adoption. My own mother got some of those comments, because I look a different race.

Isn't it more racist of the journalist to make these assumptions about all reactions being racially motivated?

race, rant, theory
