In my Current English class, we're watching Wreck-it Ralph.  It's currently showing in Japan only in Japanese (at least in my area) and considering my class is current English, I thought it would be a good thing to watch.  The students were crazy excited when I mentioned at the end of a class that we could watch it!

I almost feel like I'm living in a comedy of errors.

Or maybe some bizzaro Japanese office drama.  All I know is that everything about this week has been completely wonky.

My little plants had quite an adventure while I was home for a month, especially my little basil plant. I left them at school to be watched because I wanted to make sure someone could take care of them and since there are so many other plants at school to watch, it felt like a good place to leave them.

Thursday and Friday were my school's BUNKASAI days. Two awesome culture festival-filled days!  This year the students had a kind of festival theme.  The 1st year homerooms made fireworks murals and hung them outside (covered with plastic on Thursday due to rain).  They hung them up on the big white wall that closes off the construction area. I've been going upstairs to the school library almost every afternoon lately.  I would like to take a moment right now to mention that I have not been locked in again.

I had an incredible mishap in the school library today.  Libraries seem all innocent with their stack of books and learning atmosphere, right?  WRONG.

Golden Week doesn't officially start until next week, but I've extended mine early by an extra week because my brother is here visiting for the Great 2011 Japan Adventure.  I just named it that!  He just got here last night so we haven't gotten very far yet.

Yesterday was my school's graduation ceremony.  It was the typical long stand up, bow, sit, listen to long speech, repeat.... but it was also a day mixed with sadness and happiness.  The 3rd years graduating have been my only graduates where I've taught every single student because as 1st years, that was the year I had all the general OC1 classes ( Read more... )

On Saturday night, Maeda-sensei invited the ALTs and a couple other teachers out for yakiniku in Kobe.  This was my first time actually hanging out with coworkers like this.  I know of other ALTs who go out with their teachers to dinners and things all the time, so I always wondered if my school was just weird or something.  But not anymore!
