I saw Alice In Wonderland the other day and wish to share my thoughts. As to not spoil it for anyone (
dielakitty), I've put my rambles under a cut.
So. I was a little reluctant to see it because it wasn't really the Alice In Wonderland that we all know. She goes back when she's nineteen to escape from a boy she doesn't want to marry? Yeah, that was weird. BUT I have to say that I love the visual effects and sets. They were beautiful and cool. The costumes? Not as much. Alice occasionally looked like a frumpy slut (
evidence of this) and I apologize but Anne Hathaway did not look pretty with that make-up at all -->
click I loved the girl who played Alice, actually. She was just the right amount of insecure, stubborn, and in the end, brave. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, though? Not one of his better roles, I'm sorry. I don't think I liked how they wrote the Mad Hatter in general, so it's not his fault. I adored Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the dodo bird, the March Hare, and the dormouse. Especially the dormouse, she was hardcore with her needle!sword (
yay, needle!sword!). The Queen of Hearts (or Red Queen, as they called her) was... so-so. She certainly got the annoying and hateful part down. The guy who played the Knave of Hearts was good, though it disturbed me a bit when he hit on Alice. And OMG the Chesire Cat and his obession with the Mad Hatter's hat! I loved the Chesire Cat anyway, but him wanting to steal the Mad Hatter's hat and use it as a scratching post just made me giggle (which annoyed the other people in the theater greatly).
Two more points and then I'm done:
1. The Jabberwocky? Was not nearly scary enough and was too easy to defeat. Just saying.
2. Alan Rickman (SNAPE! SNAPE!) played the caterpillar. I nearly died from laughing when I heard his voice, seriously. And he did such a good job!
Okay, I'll quit now. *goes off to corner*
