Ryo had gotten the call a little over a week ago. Ueda Tatsuya would be transferred to a hospital outside of Tokyo, that Ryo would be moved to the burn unit, that his life would be different.
Ryo had been in Osaka when he’d gotten the call, his mother was still consoling him when his heart had shattered into a billion different shards.
“Honey, you should be thrilled! You always wanted to work with physically unable patients, why do you look so sad?” Her gentle voice had boomed in his ears like a band of drummers during the night.
“Ueda won’t be at Tanoshi anymore, mom. I won’t see him anymore.” His voice shook so violently he wasn’t sure if it wasn’t his actual body that was wracked in violent spasms.
His mother didn’t quite understand, though, she never understood her son all that well.
He was now back at work, moving his stuff from his locker on the fourth floor and saying goodbye to everyone.
“You’ll do wonders for their department, Nishikido-san! I believe in you!” Kuroki squeaked out through tears, the other secretaries nodding their heads in approval.
Ryo had walked around the floor numbly, saying goodbye to everyone and getting ready for the welcome party that would happen on the second floor burn unit in about 20 minutes. He had only one stop left before he would take his box to his new department, Ueda’s old room.
Walking in to the now stale white room, he remembered all the posters that once hung, the guitar that used to sit in the corner by his wardrobe, the boy that used to sit on the bolted down hospital bed.
A warm tear fell down the osakan’s face before being hastily wiped away by it’s owner.

“How is he doing Akanishi-san?” The doctor asked as he walked in Kamenashi’s assigned room.
“He’s getting lots of sleep, I hope.” Jin muttered while stroking the boy’s delicate hands. He was silently hoping today would be the day, that maybe Kamenashi would wake up today.
“I should teach you how to read the machines, Akanishi, that way I won’t have to disturb you two anymore.” The doctor chuckled while writing on his clipboard, and ignoring Jin’s glare.
After the physician left, Jin got up close to frail looking man and whispered quietly, “Wake up, please. If you wake up, we can play another game. Any game you want, I promise. Just wake up.”

Kazuya knew Jin was upset, he could feel his hot tears land on his own hand, he heard Jin’s pleading cries throughout the night, he felt his hurt.
Kame wanted nothing more than to wake up, he just didn’t know how.
All you have to do is promise me control, Kazuya.
God dammit. He had forgotten about the voice.
It had come back to him a while ago, telling him that he could help Kame wake up, in exchange all Kame had to do was stop fighting against it.
Hearing Jin cry, he was seriously considering the offer.

“Hey… Jin?” Ryo poked his head into the room, only to find Jin asleep on the boy’s chest, dried tears adorning his face.
Nishikido sighed and moved to put a blanket over the sleeping aide.
“Kamenashi, I don’t know you, I’ve never met you, but please, wake up for Jin. He needs you, I think.” Ryo whispered a silent goodbye and left the room.
“Now to the burn unit.” He sighed and pressed the button on the elevator.

“Ueda-san, please, calm down!” The nurse yelled exasperatedly, she just wanted the man to sit down!
“Not until I talk to Nishikido Ryo! I want to speak to Nishikido Ryo!” The 20 something cried out, rather childishly, if you asked the nurse. She had told her new patient that because he was at a new clinic, Nishikido wouldn’t be his aide anymore, and that lead them here, a crying adult that resembled a recently scolded toddler.
“Please, let me please talk to him, I won’t be bad anymore I promise!” The man pleaded to her with big puppy dog eyes. She sighed and left the room to locate a phone book.
Picking up his stuffed dog, Tatsuya whispered happily, ‘I’m going to hear Ryo-chan again, Eri.’

“Hello, Nishikido speaking.” Ryo sighed into his cell phone, he wasn’t exactly sure why he answered the call in the first place.
His first day in the burn unit went without any problems, but he still couldn’t seem to get excited about the fact that he was no longer going to be experiencing headache after headache with Ueda.
“Uh, Nishikido-san, this is Akiko from Saito Clinic. My patient, Ueda Tatsuya, refuses to calm down until he speaks with you. Would you mind?” Ryo suddenly felt his heartbeat in his ears.
Tatsuya wanted to talk to him? Tatsuya remembered him? Tatsuya… missed him?
“Oh, uh, sure. Yeah, I can talk to him.” He tried to sound as nonchalant as possible, but on the inside, he was jumping like a child. After a few shuffling sounds, the voice he had missed so much rang out from the receiver.
“Ryo-san? Is it really you? Do you remember me? It’s Tatsuya!” the childlike voice was like a warm rainbow flowing throughout his body.
“Yeah, I remember you Tatsuya. I miss you, too.” Ryo said through tears, silently opening his apartment door and hoping his neighbors didn’t see him crying.
“Ryo-san, how come you won’t be my aide anymore? Is it because I cheated in chess?” The hurt in Tatsuya’s voice was very evident to Ryo, and suddenly he realized that Ueda didn’t remember what happened.
“He suffered a seizure commonly found in patients with his specific type of schizophrenia, luckily he didn’t end up like most of the patients.”
“What happens to most of the patients?”
“They die.”
“No, that’s not why. It’s better for you at that hospital, Tatsuya, they can help you better than Tanoshi can. I’m sorry I can’t be with you anymore.” Ryo’s tears fell harder and the knot in his chest tightened.
“So… we can’t play anymore?” Tatsuya sounded confused, a little hurt, and like he needed a hug.

Jin was considering going home, giving up. It had been a month since Kamenashi went into the coma, and Jin was beginning to forget the sound of his voice.
He wasn’t sure what else he could do to help Kamenashi, to get him to wake up.
“Hey, mom? It’s Jin. I was wondering if maybe I could come home for a week? I need a vacation.”
>>>><<<<
Kazuya couldn’t let Jin leave, he just couldn’t. He wouldn’t let that happen!
Hey, bad Kame! I’ll stop fighting, so let me wake up now please. Please, let me see Jin again!
Without an answer, he started to feel the darkness lighten, and the heaviness around him lift.
He blinked rapidly and saw Jin’s broad back shaking with tears in front of him, despite his dry throat, he called out to him.
“Aka-nishi… san.”
>>>><<<<
Jin turned around as fast as he could, and indeed, Kamenashi’s eyes were open. He was awake! He was talking!
“Mom, I gotta go.”
