Actress Takako Matsu will soon be seen in a drama that deals with some heavy issues, such as the murder of a nigh school student, bullying and shut-ins (known as “hikikomori” in Japanese).
In the film, “Confessions,” directed by Tetsuya Nakashima,” Matsu, well-known for her role in the popular film and television drama, “HERO”, plays a middle school teacher whose daughter is murdered by two of her students, and plots revenge. The film is based on the award-winning novel of the same name.
Nakashima told the audience at a premiere that he invited Matsu for the role with a hand-written letter. “I read the script in a single sitting and I knew this film would be something good, so I replied to him immediately!” Matsu said.
Nakashima praised Matsu’s acting talents, saying, “Her role is a very difficult one. But she never asked me any questions about how she should act. She responded naturally to my subtle hints.”
At the screening, Matsu made a “confession” of her own. She told audiences that a pool she jumps into in one scene is actually very shallow. “To be honest, I can’t swim,” she admitted.
“Confessions” opens on June 5. The theme song is “Last Flowers,” by British rock band Radiohead.
