52-year-old arrested for breaking into apartment of Johnny’s president

Police have charged a man with breaking and entering after he barricaded himself in Johnny Kitagawa’s apartment in Shibuya this morning, reports Jiji Press, Sankei News, and Mainichi Shimbun.

It has been reported around 9:40am on August 17, the 52-year-old suspect, Toshio Unotoro, broke into the Johnny’s president’s apartment building. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Shibuya office, the suspect followed Kitagawa into the building after he unlocked the door. Then, after getting ahead Kitagawa, broke into his unlocked apartment and locked the door from inside. Kitagawa then contacted security and made an emergency 110 call to police. Forty minutes later, Shibuya ward police entered the apartment and arrested the suspect.

It has been reported the suspect has said Kitagawa was an acquaintance so he was only going into a friend’s home. However, Kitagawa has said he does not know the suspect. Unotoro was unarmed and there have been no reports of injury.
