Earlier this week, Becky visited the Tohoku region as a volunteer. Her mission there was to bring a smile to the faces of all the children suffering from the tragic disaster.
Before visiting the shelters, Becky visited the surrounding areas and surveyed the damage done by the earthquake. She had realized it was very different to see the devastation in person rather than on TV and that it was more than she had imagined. She commented, “I can’t believe this, this is so sad. I can’t find words to describe this“.
After taking a look around and taking it all in, Becky became even more determined as she visited several shelters for children. Despite what has happened, the children of Tohoku were as energetic as ever and having Becky show up to play with them really made them excited. During the first stop, Becky was hugged and greeted by many children; one of which called out to her, “Marry me!“. After the formalities, Becky and the kids all made paper airplanes and flew them together outside.
Becky also talked with several adults and heard their sad stories. There were people who still haven’t found loved ones and others who have found out their relatives had been killed, but each person still remained strong. Among some issues at the shelter is the lack of privacy. Many women expressed their concern about a lack of privacy, but they’re just grateful being there all the same.
After talking with the older women, Becky then ventured to another classroom and made balloon animals and blew bubbles with the kids. She even plays rock, paper, scissors with them and they all have a blast. Towards the end of the clip several kids comment about how happy they were to have Becky there and that it was so much fun to have her around.
