This month, Ueno Zoo received two giant pandas from China and on February 26th, talent Ohashi Nozomi (11) was selected as “Ueno’s Panda Welcoming Ambassador”.
During the press conference, Ohashi appeared together with Ueno Zoo’s mascot, ‘Ueno Panda’. Smiling, she encouraged the public to come meet the zoo’s newest attractions. “The pandas are so cute and I love them. Everyone, you all should come and meet them too!” It’s being reported that the pandas will meet the general public at the end of March.
Also during that day, the Tokyo Zoo Association created a foundation called the “Giant Panda Shelter Support Foundation”. A collection box has been installed inside Ueno Zoo, and the zoo is also asking for donations from corporations. All proceeds collected will go towards the maintenance and care for the pandas.
The director of the zoo, Komiya Teruyuki, commented on the status of the two new pandas: “Our domestic bamboo is suiting the pandas well; they’re even pooping a lot. So there is no problem with their health”.
