Bicentennial Janus File

OPEN: JANUS FILE #0200

Once upon a time . . . no, that sounds just a little too cliched. Let's try something else.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . hmmm, I should probably stop here before I receive a nasty letter from George Lucas's lawyers.

Oh, what the hell. Break out the champagne, people, it's time to celebrate!

As you may have noticed when you saw the top of this entry, this is the 200th entry in The Janus Files. In the comics industry, any time a title reaches any multiple of 100, it's usually time for a special issue. (That is even more true today, since some publishers feel the overwhelming need to take long-running titles, end them, and start over with a #1 issue, and there aren't as many titles reaching even issue #100, let alone the milestones beyond that. But I digress.) In a similar spirit, I decided that this entry was cause for a celebration.

When I posted Janus File #0100 (it was May 31, 2005, if you are feeling somewhat nostalgic), I noted that it had been 500 days since I started this journal. I also noted that I had managed to time things so that it would fall on that particular day. This time, you will notice that I wasn't doing any such careful planning. According to a message that appeared on the Xanga version of The Janus Files, today makes 1367 days since I started presenting these for your approval. I'm hoping that it won't take as long to reach the next big milestone. I doubt that I'll be trying to time it to any specific day, though; I discovered that doing something like that takes much too much advance planning.

I already knew that I was just a little obsessive-compulsive, but during the course of posting the last 100 entries, I discovered how obsessive-compulsive I could really be. That was when I had the bright idea of taking everything from the original site on Xanga, and creating a mirror site on LiveJournal. At the time, it seemed as though it was taking forever to complete the migration, but it actually went much quicker than I originally thought it would.

One of the fun things about writing this is the occasional serendipitous discovery. Through various twists and turns, I have stumbled across a number of fascinating writers both on Xanga and on LiveJournal, all with their own particular quirks and interests. Discovering these writers is good -- being able to read them on an ongoing basis is even better. (And I hope the same is true of those who have discovered me, and didn't run away screaming in terror after reading this site.)

I think that possibly the biggest mistake I made concerning The Janus Files was telling my parents about it, and giving them the URL for the site. On the other hand, I never mentioned it to them again, so they may have forgotten about it. Well, they have never mentioned anything to me about reading any of my entries after posting them. Maybe it is safe to finally tell that story about me and the identical triplet majorettes.

Okay, enough of my rambling. Time for the party to begin. Feel free to wander the archives of The Janus Files. Take a look at my tags, and click on one that piques your interest. And if you feel so inclined, leave comments. (I still think that one of my best ones is Janus File #0003.)
