The Doctor mused that Rose might actually be in some sort of trouble, unsurprising as it was, as he examined a large branch with traces of blood and blonde hair. He leapt to his feet as his ears caught the sound of cheering in the distance. Racing towards the sound, his hearts began to clench as he heard the unmistakable sounds of a mob claiming for a witch to die.
Stopping directly outside of a small village, the Doctor scanned the angry group for any sign of a familiar blonde head. Having no luck, he nearly entered the village to look closer, but stopped himself just in time to hear an apparent authority figure silence the crowd and instruct them to search for a "Doctor" who was the accused witch's familiar. "Oh, no."
Thinking quickly, he pulled out the psychic paper and strode into the village. The crowd instantly turned to him and he smiled widely. "Don't mind me, just passing through, but I couldn't help but overhear. You're looking for a Doctor?"
The man who was apparently in charge walked over to him and glared up at the Doctor. "I am Thomas, the leader of this village. Who are you?"
"Doctor Harold Sullivan, at your service," the Doctor replied with a slight bow, handing over the psychic paper. "I specialize in curing patients who have been affected in the mind by witchcraft. I couldn't help but overhear that you have accused my patient, one Rose Tyler, of being a witch herself."
Thomas handed back the psychic paper, apparently satisfied with what he saw and frowned up at the Doctor. "Rose Tyler is your patient?"
"I'm afraid so, yes. She escaped me in the woods while I was taking her to London for treatment. She was attacked by a witch some days ago and her mother requested that I attempt to cure her daughter."
"I see. Well, I am most sorry for this unfortunate circumstance, but the she has already been brought to appease Kilgharrahsh."
"Kilgharrahsh?"
"A mighty dragon who has attacked us and demanded our young women."
"A...dragon?! You sent Rose to become a dragon's meal? How dare you!"
"Now, see here, Sir. This young woman is merely a patient of yours, correct?"
"Not entirely," the Doctor said with a scowl, improvising quickly. "She was meant to be my wife before she was attacked. I...love this young woman."
The small man grew pale and backed away slightly. "I...I apologize, Sir. She seemed to be merely a witch when we encountered her. We had no idea. Please accept my humble apologies."
"Where is this dragon?" the Doctor asked after a short silence.
"Surely you are not thinking of going after the girl?" The look the Doctor gave him made the man take a few stumbling steps backwards. "Ah, yes, of course, sir. Timothy?"
A timid looking young man stepped out of the crowd. "Yes, Thomas?"
"You will guide Doctor Sullivan to Kilgharrahsh's cave."
"But, Thomas, I..."
"You will do it with no complaints. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Thomas," the boy replied as he started out of the village.
The short man turned to the Doctor and frowned. "Good luck, Sir."
"You had just better hope Rose is alright," the Doctor replied as he turned to follow Timothy into the woods.
