So now I'm finally posting my thoughts on The Eleventh Hour...after showing my littlest sister yesterday. Spoilers under the cut!
First of all, I don't much care for the new theme tune. It just seems like whoever did it took the 2008/Specials theme and mixed it with some other noise, covering up the awesome music we're all used to. The drumbeat is hard to hear too which really annoys me because that's one of the best parts. I dunno, maybe I'll get used to it in time and I'll like it almost as much as Series 1's. The title sequence itself was cool though. Very "Fourish" my brother said adn I agree with him. The vortex tunnel looks a lot like Four's first title sequence...you know, with the TARDIS coming towards you and then Tom's face?
This one. The lightning hitting the TARDIS in the new titles is pretty neat too and possibly explains why riding in the TARDIS is always so "bouncy" :P
Now onto Matt and Karen. They're both great actors and I think whoever it was that chose them did a fantastic job. They play the parts so well even though I could easily see quirks that definitely carried over from Ten. Tasting the shed, jumping over things...babbling even! Hopefully those things were just a symptom of regeneration and disappear over time. Even though I miss Ten I don't want to see Eleven become a carbon copy of him. Every Doctor is supposed to be different. The part when Eleven is tasting all the food just makes me laugh every single time I see it because he reminds me of my littlest brother when he was younger. Tasting and spitting out the food he doesn't like. Amy was also brilliant! She reminds me very strongly of a younger, sassier version of Donna, which can be a good and a bad thing considering how much more like Donna she is later on in the series.
Now for Prisoner Zero. It was definitely Steven Moffat writing it. Scary, stuck with me and absolutely scared me to pieces. In fact, I woke up night before last and thought I saw it out of the corner of my eye! Now that's a scary monster. Of course my sister wasn't even fazed by it. She just said "ew it's like a snake" and just focused on Matt. I think she's got a new crush. The Atraxi(spell?)were definitely interesting. Giant eyeballs in spaceships? Very weird but still cool.
The story itself was okay. Not the best but I can deal with it. Hopefully the rest of the series will be better. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of it but some parts were just slow and seemed kind of pointless...at least to me. Like the scene with Rory and that doctor right after Amy knocks Eleven out with the cricket bat(and don't think I didn't get the reference to Five there!) Sure it gives you a hint as to what's going on but I just don't care for it.
I also saw the trailer for the next episode and it looks to be a great thriller. I can't wait :D
All in all:
New Doctor: fantastic.
New companion: brilliant.
New theme: not good.
New title sequence: great.
The episode: okay.
The monster: scary.
Anticipation for next episode: very, very high.
