It's some kind of progress

Since I don't have a project journal, I'll be trying to record my progress and lessons earned during the morse project here.

I've done some doodling on the stitch layout for the morse pattern, this will be a bit of a challenge. The scale is going to require the finest needle I have and thin floss to have any detail at all in the faces. Also been reviewing the extant work. Such things as no iris in the eyes, just pupil. And often the mens' hair was stripped. The classic round cheeks just isn't going to happen, I don't think there is enough space.

There was a learning opportunity while framing up. The two snug sides were easy, but I first tightened the one stretcher bar so much the entire fabric was massively bowed. Not too swift. Fortunately I hadn't tied anything off yet, and I loosened it up until I had a square fabric when I put tension on the other side.

I've been trying to pull the silks for the embroidery but motivation was lacking while we sort of cleared the house of Spot's stuff. That cat may not have given me the time of day, but I still miss that fur butt. My usual lazy technique of curling up in my recliner and pawing through my stash just wasn't working. I finally made myself not do cleanup/computer stuff this morning except for clearing table space to lay everything out in good light. Looking it over, I'm pretty sure I don't have my entire stash co-located, even after a major effort over the fall and winter. I think I do have enough colors for the design as created. Unfortunately, most of the colors are from silks I got from an ebay source that sent loose hanks. I have worked out a process to wind these off onto spools so I don't tangle them, but it does take a while. My back gets tired after a time and I have to rest. Maybe I'll have a nice neat stack of spools by tomorrow.

Since I am not an archer at this time, I thought to take the frame and work on it in the light at On Target. That still may happen but it will be the test stitching in the corner for thread thickness and stitch length. I also need to make estimates of time involved in each of these preliminary steps; framing, research, thread preparation. I have a little notebook to put in my work box to track the actual stitching time for once.

Hot shower to relax back and more silk winding.
