Making myself ask for help

Feb 15, 2008 08:03

As orlacarey mentioned, we are being blessed with the presence of a reporter at the mostly monthly gathering of the Embroidery Guild of Greater Storvik (EGGS) next Thursday. This leads me to the subject request.

I have this overwhelming desire to make a Good Impression on the reporter who will be attending EGGS. Our house is stereotypically cluttered with the various detritus of life and half finished projects. I wouldn't worry to the point of ulcers if it were other fen or SCAdians coming over - I would just try to make sure the piles weren't in the way or falling over.

HOWEVER! I have this crack-headed idea that the image of the SCA I want to project is mainstream people who have this dynamic, creative hobby. The most mainstream person I knew was my mother, so I envision her response to seeing the house. ACCKK! PANIC!!

So, I am asking for a few locals who understand how to 'see' clutter to help me de-clutter the main floor. As the goslings say - 'Grandma Clean'. They need to be very understanding as well, and will only point and laugh quietly. Not to do a deep cleaning, or even the a total 'clean house' effort of dividing our earthly possessions into keep/toss/donate piles. Just to get the surface presentable enough for my mom to have seen it. I will provide meals of course. I was thinking Sunday afternoon and/or Monday if you have the luxury of President's Day off. I have a long standing obligation this weekend that I am blowing off after Sunday morning.

I am embarrassed to ask this, but my desire for Storvik to look good way overcomes any personal embarrassment. If you feel comfortable about this and have a few hours to burn, please contact me at ggoose1 at gmail or the phone number on the baronial webpage.

I thank you for your time, and now will post this before I actually expire form embarrassment.
