Spring in November

So I've found that I update this in a very irregular pattern.
Thanksgiving was last week and Christmas is coming soon but I really have not gotten into the Christmas spirit at all. Sean and I are planning on decorating tonight so I think that will help my scrooge-like state.
This Thanksgiving was the first in a very long time where I did not spend it with my grandmother and aunt and uncles. My mother and littlest sister Sarah went to England and France for the holiday. Since she teaches French at the high school she took a group of students in her classes (along with students in the World Cultures Club) to London and Paris for the holiday. Since half of our family was gone, my little sister Margaret and my dad and I drove the 522 miles from their house in Burlington to our hotel in Brooklyn. The usually 9 hour trip took a good 14 hours (with 2 stops for meals).*note to self: don't EVER drive north during the holidays again*. Anyway we arrived to our hotel around 10pm and checked in. We stayed at the City View Best Western which was actually very nice. Margaret and I had a room with 2 double beds for 4 nights for $599. The continental breakfast there was really nice and they had a free shuttle to the subway station (the 7 train in queens that goes into manhattan). Jamie (Margaret's boyfriend) lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn so that is the reason we stayed near there instead of in manhattan (well that and the price of the hotel). While in NYC we saw 2 broadway shows, the Fantastics and Spring Awakening. The Fantastics was great, such a sweet show. Spring Awakening was the one I was really looking forward too though. I've been watching the show Weeds for a while and over the summer they announced that Hunter Parrish (Silas on Weeds) was going to be taking over the role of Melchior in SA. So I downloaded the soundtrack and really fell in love with it. Since I knew we were going to NYC over thanksgiving I went ahead and got on-stage seats for us. Sitting on stage was amazing. The person sitting next to me was actually in the cast, her name was Frances and she is the understudy for the adult woman. I knew that there where "ensemble" chairs on the stage but I never realized they were in street clothes so I was really surprised when the girl sitting next to pulled out a microphone and started singing half way through the first act. Anyway, the show is closing in January so if you are in NY you should definitely see it. It is absolutely amazing!
