Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals, or holiday_wishes/wish_list) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
I've done this a few times, and since I love a good list I think I'll give it another go.
1) I love love love socks, especially those of the argyle variety. But mostly just socks- knee socks, over-the-knee-socks, ankle socks, rugby socks, thermal socks, socks that glow in the dark, tabi socks, toe socks. In conclusion...socks! (It's hard to believe there would ever come a time when I thought socks were a good gift, but there you go)
2) I have some stuff that I've listed at my
Amazon Wish List. Each of those things are items I plan to one day own. Either through shameless begging or by diligently saving my pennies.
3) I know there are a few tshirts on there. They come from various sites round the web. If you're interested, please pm me for sizing details.
4) Books! I adore books! They are my cocaine and I make no plans to quit! If anyone is interested in sending me another hit of book, please see the link above. Or you can send me the title of a book you think will speak to me. Hopefully I'll be able to get a copy of it on library loan.
5) This year I've been feeling rather bereft of friend companionship. A card letter phone call would be wonderful, or taking me to lunch/brunch/dessert/etc would be even better. Just something to let me know I haven't been forgotten.
6) This is more of a philosophical one, something I'd like but no one can give me. I'd like a dream job. Something that pays very well, is what I'd like to be doing, has an office full of great people, a relaxed dress code, and allows for a 9am start time. If anyone hears of anything like that in my area, please oh please contact me! It'll be the absolute best gift of ever.
So there you go, now if you'll excuse me, I have to go freak out over how few shopping days there are left. Yike!
