Two years ago August, I had my hair cut short enough to get rid of six months growth after dying it my favorite chestnut shade for a while. I now have virgin hair again.
I have almost 50% grey in my hair. It's dull, drab and is so bushy and wild after air drying, that I can't wear it out in public. Everyday I either, wear it in a ponytail, wear it twisted and up or braided (french braid, side braid or just braided down my back).
I have naturally curly hair, with one section on the left front that doesn't curl, it just frizzes. My bangs are a mess with a mind of their own. Left side okay, right side - no way Jose.
I haven't cut my hair since last November, except for trimming my own bangs. I did it for two reasons:
1. to let it grow, to see how long it could be
2. the last three hair cuts I received - lots of layers with bangs, look like shite if I should decide to take the time to blow dry and flat iron
I haven't blown dry or flat ironed my hair since Memorial Day (nor have I trimmed my bangs). I've done this because it is so dry and with my working nights, I don't spend the time to 'fix' my hair anymore since no one will either see it (I work only one property with another person) or care, so what's the point?
My age is now the same as the posted highway speed limit. I've become disenchanted with the state my hair is in and feel the need for a change. What do I want to do?
Well, first I've decided to deep condition my hair several times a week. Hopefully this will get my hair to the stage where it is a lot less dry and I can stand looking in the mirror at it (actually the back of my head is where the best curl resides, the front is the opposite).
In time for the holidays, I plan to make an appointment at the Capri College Student Salon and take advantage of their Haircut, Color & Highlight Special - $54/$59/$64.
I have been reading online articles about grey blending. Depending on the percentage of grey, they add highlights which with blend with both your grey hair and what hair you have left that isn't grey. I like this idea. Most of my grey is from my brown to the crown of my head. I have coarse grey stripes and strands through the rest.
If grey blending isn't an option for whatever reason, I want to do a base color and then highlight, which will turn back the clock and make me a blonde again.
As for the haircut, I want either:
1. lots of layers & sideswept bangs (which I will blow dry and curl, but not flat iron)
2. no layers, just a trim (which will allow me to flat iron straight and it won't look really odd)
I wish I had pictures to share to give you an idea of what I'm going for, but I've yet to come across any. It's just all in my head.
I'll keep you posted as things progress, including reviews of the deep conditioners I plan on using, etc.
Comments, tips or general help and support would be lovely.
