Day off
A mid-week day off today, since I'll be working the weekend. The greatest traditions are popping up around here. We have a regular Monday night get-together to watch the episode of Doctor Who we torrented that showed in Britain Saturday night, and used to have a 30 Rock date before the season ended (Good God, Lemon) and now there's a standard Saturday-morning Dave-in-slippers-and-bathrobe pancake extravaganza. Dave has perfected the whole-wheat pancake recipe, and we top them with strawberries and peaches...oh, so good. I love our Saturday mornings, when friends come over in pajamas and we all eat together. It's the best.
Yesterday I helped teach the Physician's Assistant students phlebotomy for the second year running, and came away with a few nice bruises (I don't mind being poked, really I don't...it's kind of a macho thing: "I know you've never put a needle in anyone before. Give it a shot! I dare ya!")
The best thing lately is that I got my MCAT scores back (the Medical College Admission Test) and they were even better than I could have hoped. I studied so goddamn hard for it, and it's kind of an unbelievable feeling to see that pay off. I'm also in major disbelief that I scored in the 95th percentile...me! I've been smiling for days.
Working on my medical school applications now, submitting before next week. Wow. Can you believe it? Remember when, oh so long ago, I said something like "I might just go for that MD after all" on here? It's really coming together...it really is. I'm unspeakably excited.
In other news, I self-published the Pride and Prejudice fanfic that I wrote as respite from studying...it's available on Amazon. I used my great-grandmother's name as a nom de plume, because you never know, do you? Besides, Lavinia Angell is a vastly superior author name, in my opinion.
So here we are! Looking forward to our California trip, which is coming right up, and then summer Biochemistry! What a life!
