Text Messaging 101

Appropriate times to use text messaging instead of calling:

1. Loud bars. No one can hear anything anyway. It's best to put those reading skills to use.

2. Happy Birthdays. This saves you from the awkward conversation: "So any big plans today? Oh, that sounds fun. Man [insert age] sounds so old. We're getting old. Well, alright, just wanted to call to say Happy Birthday. Have a good day!"

You know you've had that convo

3. At work or when the other person is at work. It's a lot easier to sneak a text in than to have a whole conversation. So go ahead and bitch about your boss/coworkers via text. We all know you can't do it via blog anymore.

4. Short, one sentence, messages that don't usually warrant a response such as "I hate my life"

Inappropriate times to use text messaging instead of calling:

1. 2 a.m. booty "call" You want me to come over now? And you couldn't even scroll through your numbers, press send and talk to me?

2. You're dating/interested/might one day want to get into the pants of someone who you haven't seen/talked to in a few days.

3. Driving. Safety first kids.

4. The text messaging exchange has happened more than three times. It obviously needs some discussion, so just pick up the phone. Oh wait, it's already in your hands, so use it.
