If you've ever met me in person, you probably know that I'm a big fan of "What Not to Wear." Though I don't watch regularly anymore (in fact, are they still making new episodes?), I really enjoy Stacy and Clinton's witty, good-humored makeovers of the sartorially challenged. I've picked up a ton of good tips from the show, especially about how to dress my body (admittedly not of supermodel quality) in a flattering way.
So I know that Stacy and Clinton would not approve of my going out this afternoon in a hoodie. Yet it was this very hoodie that led to a nice moment: I was walking through the lobby toward the front door of my apartment building, and I passed a guy waiting for the elevator. We both said hey as I passed, and he noticed that my hoodie had a Stone Harbor logo. So we had a nice little chat about the Jersey shore, and how the show "Jersey Shore" is really quite misleading. And he was cute! :)
On the one hand, I know it is very dorky/pathetic for me to be excited about having a 30-second conversation with a cute guy. But on the other hand, he does live in my building, so maybe I'll see him again someday. :) And even if not, it was a nice, uplifting little moment! And it would never have happened without my unfashionable hoodie. So take that, Stacy and Clinton. Take that.
(On an unrelated note, this is the cutest episode of "New Girl" ever! Although I still miss the douchebag jar.)
