Well, this didn't take nearly as long as last time. So, without further ado Vancon 2012.
Stumbled on this cafe while wandering around downtown Vancouver...
There was a little 1812 exhibit at Canada Place, had to check it out.
They had a little reenactment type thing, but they area was small so people went in in groups of 10 or so. When I went in there were 11 of us. The guide asked who'd heard of the war before. Me and one other person raised their hand. She asked where we were from and I said Calgary. He said Poland. She said "and you've heard of this war?", and he said yes, they were taught about it in school. She asked where everyone else was from and they were all from Canada, plus 2 Americans. So, 9 out of 10 North Americans never heard of it before, but the guy from Poland has. Sad...
Never noticed our anthem here before...
Holy crap, I found us on Canada Trail!
CAROLYN: Qikiqtarjuaq! Q-I-K-
ARTHUR: Mum! Sorry, but you forgot the U.
CAROLYN: No, I did not. There isn’t a U. It’s Q-I-K-I-
ARTHUR: No, Mum, there’s always a U after a Q. It’s the law. Mrs. Dimand taught me that. Eventually.
CAROLYN: And you are a credit to her. Nonetheless the good people of Qikiqtarjuaq choose to spell it Q-I-K-I-Q-T-
MARTIN: Another Q?
CAROLYN: Yes. Q-T-
ARTHUR: Q-T? Well, I’m not going to be the one to tell Mrs. Dimand!
Got to see it up close this time, it's gorgeous!
Rachel was doing her own thing, so she wasn't there to stop me going into a book store...
And then she goes ahead and spoils me with my very belated birthday gift! Rachel, I love you!
Deborah checks out my new books.
And then shares this awesome shirt about honorary Canadians.
Super excited Rachel.
