I really needed to do an OotP review, because I'm kind of horrified and bewildered by the number of people who think it was OMG TEH BEST THING EVAR, where usually there seem to be a goodly number of people on both ends of the spectrum where movie canon, or even proper canon, is concerned. I actually liked Prisoner as a film, despite, or possibly because of the deviations. It made it feel more like a fanfic retelling. I cared less about what was in the book and what wasn't...
I like how you managed to unify what I felt was a very messy, overflowingly full book into a central theme of making wrong choices and suffering the consequences. I'm inclined to say the text, whilst supporting this reading (if only because the sheer mass of its all-inclusive style), isn't as clear as to what it wants to be about. It was one of the biggest of the Harry Potter books, with a great number of new characters and less clear a plot structure than its predecessors. In fact, it almost entirely abandons the whole "twist in the tale" aspect and its overarching "mystery" plot is less pronounced. But that's not necessarily a weakness - only that in some ways it is, since Rowling writes very plot driven books, but I digress.
To pick a thread from Order and make it the unifying theme isn't easy. One can argue its actually about surviving under a ( ... )
