Fic/writing Bitch

Real short one, just a few comments on miscellaneous.

It's "between you and me." Not "I." Both pronouns are objects of a preposition.

"For him and me."

"To me and her."

You would not say, "He gave the flowers to I." So please don't write, "He gave the flowers to her and I," or even worse, "to she and I."

Her, him, me. Objects. Not subjects.

Secondly, I'll welcome feedback on this one, especially in light of the recent public discussions regarding the word "faggot." I know the writers on QAF used "faggot" every so often in dialog, but it really bothers me that it gets thrown around in fic, especially when it's written by writers who are (mostly heterosexual) women. There seems to be no compunction or even thought in that word's deployment in the story. I'm not thinking of any specific cases, but I noticed some fics have Emmett using that word as if in celebrating his fabulousness - and it strikes me that if the word is to be used, there needs to be some self-consciousness as to its problematics, and how the word is often deployed as a really venomous and hurtful word in speech.

Then again, good writers are aware of the fact that each word they select carries a weight with it, and they deploy all their words self-consciously. Language is power, and I guess I always read with the awareness of how dangerous language can be - which is why I don't get on the cheer bus with fics that suck.

I probably shouldn't even make this post, but what the hell. Feel free to ignore.
