Snuggles, Garden Progress

Jul 22, 2015 00:47

Snuggles' story is having a happy ending, except that J is still homeless. C and family are taking good care of the dog. Daughter gave him a bath yesterday and he is staying in the cool house with them, which I'm sure he loves. Snuggles is happy and I'm happy.

Not much to report about the garden: Lemon Cucumbers are starting to grow actual fruit, as are the regular Cucumbers. Two Suashes are growing slowly, and I saw one flower on the Bush Bean plant in the trough. I painted whole milk on some of the Squash and Cucumber leaves infected with Powdery Mildew. Milk works better than anything else I've ever tried. Harry mowed the new patch of grass today and it looks bright green and healthy. I love the smell of a freshly mown lawn, and the smell of wet cedar bark when I water. Harry also put up a Hummingbird feeder. We've never had more than one or two come around, but we're always thrilled to see one feeding. I realize as I walk around the gardens, I have a lot of outside puttering to do: The Bridal Veil bush needs to have dead branches trimmed; The Forsythia needs to be tied up, off the Bridal Veil. I need to research my re-blooming Iris, to see what I need to do to encourage them to bloom again this fall. All the Poppy plants have died back, so can I cut off the flower heads, stems & leaves? I'll look that up too. There are always Roses to dead-head, and weeds to pull. Now if I can just get myself going in the early morning before it gets hot................ LOL On the front porch, there is a small and a large Aloe-like plant. They are both sending up flower spikes, and the small one is blooming with tiny white-with-gray-stripes bell-shaped flowers. The larger plant has a thick flower spike with a smaller branch coming off the main spike. I'm hoping some of the other Cacti will bloom, because their flowers are so colorful, bright reds and yellows. I keep talking to them...............

Off to read journals!
