Yesterday was my last exam... at UBC... ever. I am now effectively graduated.
You can refer to me from now on as Jamieson Anderson, BSc.
Thanks.
In some exciting music news, I heard a few days ago that the Foo Fighters are currently recording a new album! Here's what Joe Beebe (Dave Grohl's guitar tech) said about it on his website:
"All you Foo fans will be happy to know that the record is going really well... they brought back the producer that they worked with on the Colour and the Shape... Gil Norton. Every song that I've heard come out of the control room speakers so far is a damn hit. Just like Colour and Shape. Colour and Shape has always been my favorite Foo record but I have a feeling it's going to be dethroned by this new one. Every song has great hooks and melodies and great sounds..."
The Colour and the Shape was my favourite Foo album, so hearing this news means that yes, I'm FUGGIN' PUMPED!!
In other music news, the White Stripes are coming out with a new album. I heard the first single, "Icky Thump", the other day, and I must say... it's WEIRD... but it's cool too! It's so strange, yet there's something about it that I'm just loving right now.
So for all your listening pleasure, I have uploaded it. Enjoy.
White Stripes - Icky Thump. I was talking with a buddy of mine at work today. He claims that the last White Stripes concert he was at was the best show he's ever seen. So I think I'm going to have to go to the one coming up. And it's at Deer Lake Park! I love outdoor venues!
So I was talking with Mark yesterday on the way home from UBC, and we started talking about how most of the people we know seem to be in sort of a state of flux. The large majority of people I know really don't know what they're going to do with their lives. I can actually count on one hand the people I know who have their careers actually planned out. Crazy...
In case I haven't informed you of my plans... I was originally planning (for about the past four or five years) on going to veterinary school. However, the program is ridiculously competitive, so the chances of me actually getting in are extremely low. Therefore, I decided I would apply at BCIT for the Medical Laboratory Sciences program. I've always really enjoyed lab work at Kwantlen and UBC, and I've always been really good at it, so I feel that this will be a very fitting career path for me. I applied about a month and a half ago, and on Thursday BCIT invited me to a tour of the medical laboratory at St. Paul's Hospital. It was really interesting. They showed a group of us around for an hour, then had us write a survey with a few qualifying questions. I found out that the nine of us in that group were the first applicants invited out for a tour, so it sounds like my chances of getting in are really good. I don't want to jinx it, because I haven't heard anything official yet, but I think it's safe to say that starting next year I will be on my way to becoming a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
This is not meant to knock those who haven't figured out what they want to do. If there ever is a time where you can afford to take chances, it's now. So don't just jump into something for the sake of having a steady income. Figure out what it is you really want to do. But at the same time, don't be stupid. Don't waste your time. Know when your goals are unrealistic. Make some wise decisions.
I really am glad that I've figured it out. I'll probably be working at London Drugs as much as possibly until January (when my program begins). But one thing I know is I don't want to work there for the rest of my life. I'm meant for bigger, better things. :D
I guess now's the time to get started.
Wow... preachy. My apologies.
Time for some Dark Riders hockey!
And Go Canucks Go, as well!
