“Thank you.” Siobhan said, sitting down in the dining room chair. She looks at the dinner that Lee’s mom had cooked. It looked like Yankee pot roast, mashed potatoes, some kind of noodles, and some rolls. Siobhan’s mouth began to water. It smelled delicious. She stared at the food waiting for the prayer to be over with.
Siobhan had a blast with Lee’s family. She ate more than enough food. They asked several questions on what happened to her, where she was from, and what would happen from now. She was overwhelmed by the questions, but answered them. She had chocolate pie for desert, it was rich and soft. Then she thought she needed to be going. Mrs. DeWyze brought Siobhan’s clothes to her. She felt how warm the clothes were and held them to her face. They were soft and warm. She put her jacket on.
“Well, thanks for everything. It was really nice of you.” Siobhan smiled and left. She was walking down the sidewalk, back to the bus stop, but felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw Lee, standing there.
“Leaving so soon?’
“Well, yeah, I guess so. I really don’t know why since I don’t have anywhere to go. I guess I was becoming a nuisance.” Siobhan said, looking down at the ground.
Lee looked at her with pity, again. He felt bad, imaging her on the streets in the cold winter night in Chicago.
“Why don’t you stay with me tonight? I have a guest room and we can hang out and stuff-“Lee was cut off when Siobhan smashed into him pulling him into a hug. They stood there like that for a few moments until Siobhan pulled away.
“Lee, you’re an angel. Thank you.” Siobhan said, tears soaking her face. Lee was out of words. He smiled too. He felt good about what he did and couldn’t help to feel tears coming to his eyes too. It didn’t seem like much to him, but it seemed the world to her. Then it hit him. Not everyone was the same. Not everyone had the same luxury he did. He wishes he could help more people, and felt bad that he couldn’t. He had to start with this one girl.
“Let’s get going Siobhan. We need to get your room set up. I hope you like down materials.” Siobhan gawked at the idea.
“I haven’t slept in a bed what feels like forever. Lead the way, Lee.” Siobhan smiled. Lee took her hand and pulled her and talking on a cell phone at the same time. When he pulled her around a corner there was a limousine waiting.
“Is that yours Lee?” Siobhan asked in amazement.
“Yeah, get in.” Lee smiled watching Siobhan climb into the seat. She looked at everything, eyes wide. The black leather interior was soft; Siobhan realized when she brushed her finger tips across the leather. The tinted windows were preventing her to look out into the street, as if she were paying that much attention to it anyway.
“This is a nice limo. I really love the interior. It’s so soft.”
“Thanks. It’s not cheap, but you know I manage.” Siobhan giggled at that.
“Does this thing have a mini bar?”
“It does, but I don’t drink. Basically all it has in it is water or pop.”
“Cool. How much longer until we get to your place?”
“It’s not that much farther. I think you’ll like it there.” They rode in the car in silence for a while. Siobhan continued to look around in amazement. Lee wish he could understand it. He remembered when he looked around in amazement while he was on Idol. He was blessed to win, blessed to have this. He didn’t take it for granted; but he still thought it was strange that people looked at this stuff in amazement. He couldn’t help watch Siobhan look around at the limo. He felt the car stop and opened the door. There was Lee’s not so small house. It was huge, but not a mansion. He looked at the limo and saw Siobhan still looking at the interior. There was Lee’s not so small house. It was huge, but not a mansion. He looked at the limo and saw Siobhan still looking at the interior.
“Come on Siobhan. We’re here.”
“Sorry, I got distracted.”Siobhan said as she climbed out of the limo. She looks at the house, her mouth wide open. Lee began walking and Siobhan followed him to the porch. The house was out in the outskirts of Chicago. There wasn’t a house for a couple of miles. Siobhan was amazed how short the drive was. She watched Lee open the door to his house and walked right in.
“Are you coming Siobhan?” Lee hollered from inside.
“Sure. I just want to get a good look of the outside of the house. Why is it white? Why not blue, or yellow at least, white is such a boring color.”
“I like white. Now come on. I have a lot of money, but not enough to heat Illinois.” Siobhan hurried inside. She looked at the large living room. It was huge. The furniture was black leather, wood floors, with a blue rug in the center. There was a huge plasma screen television hanging on the wall. There was a computer in the corner of the room. The monitor was at least twenty inches. She took all the expensive stuff in. Lee walked over to the couch and plopped down. He turned on the television and began watching it. Siobhan wandered around finding the kitchen. She looked in the huge fridge. There was everything in here. She pulled out a Fuze thinking it was okay to take one. She decided to ask Lee if it were okay to have.
“Lee, is it okay if I have one?” She held up the drink.
“Sure. Just don’t touch my vitamin water. I love that stuff.”
“Ok.” She opened it quickly. She forgot how good this stuff was. She took another large mouthful. She began to wonder some more. She walked upstairs for the stair case in the kitchen. At the top of the stairs was a hallway. She looked down it and saw several doors. She began to walk down the hall. She opened one door to a messy room. She figured it was Lee’s room. The blanket was half of the bed, and there were clothes everywhere. She could clean. It was at least she could do for him doing this for her. She continued and found another bedroom that looked like it hadn’t ever been touched. She wondered if this was the guest room. She walked into the room and sat on the bed. It was so soft; she just kind of sank into the bed. She got up before she decided to take a nap. She walked down the hall some more and found the three bathrooms. One was by the guest room, one was at the end of the hall, and the final on was connected to Lee’s room, which was also covered in clothes. How much clothes could one man have.
She walked down the stairs in the living room, which was a spiral stair case. Lee looked up and smiled at her. “Went exploring did we?”
“Yes. And your room is a huge mess. But that’s nothing. Anyway, how many bathrooms does this place have? I know there are at least three.”
“There are five. I only use the one in my room though and occasionally the one on the other side of the kitchen. So I am guessing you found your room?”
“Yes, it took all my strength to not to crawl in it and fall asleep.” Siobhan sat down on the couch beside Lee.
“So do you have an obsession with leather?”
“No, I just like expensive things.” Siobhan smiled at the response.
“Ok, well I think I am going to bed. God, I love saying that and there is actually a bed there.” Siobhan said, scoffing.
“I’ll get you something to change in to.”
“Ok? I haven’t slept in anything besides jeans and a t-shirt since I was little. This would be a nice change.” Siobhan said, following Lee up to his room. His room was more cluttered with light on. He was digging in his dresser when Siobhan walked in to the disoriented room.
“So there are clothes in the dresser. I wondered about that. No really I did.” Siobhan said.
“Yeah, they tend to stay in here after they are washed. I have a lot of clothes.” Lee stopped digging around in the dresser with a red t-shirt that had “Chicago” across it and a pair of black of sweatpants. Siobhan took them, holding them out. They shouldn’t be too big on her.
“I’ll be in the shower.” Siobhan said, walking down the hall. Closing the bathroom door behind her, she began to sing a simple tune. Lee heard her when he walked pass the bathroom door. He couldn’t describe what he felt. He thought it was heavenly. Then she opened up her vocal chords and basically began screaming, but not bad screaming. It was really good. Lee listened to her for a few more minutes then headed back downstairs. He hoped the house wouldn’t feel so lonely now that Siobhan was around to keep him company. He plopped down on the couch and began flipping through the channels again. It was Sunday and of course nothing good was on.
Lee focused on the channel. He found an episode of Family Guy and watched it. He’d seen it so many times that it didn’t make him laugh anymore. Finally deciding that there was nothing to do, he went to take a shower. He walked pass Siobhan's room and heard her snoring softly. She must enjoy the bed he thought to himself. He walked into the bathroom, closing the bathroom door behind him. He stripped and climbed into the shower. The hot water felt good to him. He began to sing, when he caught himself. Siobhan was across the hallway. He didn’t want to wake her up. So he quieted down and finished his shower. He slipped on a pair of boxers and lay down on his bed. He thought about the day and wondered where she would be right now if he hadn’t of ran out that door after her.
He thought about this stuff and wondered. It happened so he doesn’t need to worry anymore. The clock said eleven, so he decided it was time to sleep.
