I moved into my dorm on Wednesday. My roommate is pretty nice. He's Vietnamese, but for some reason I don't think his Vietnamese is any better than that of Cat or Christine's. Aside from the fact that he's an active officer in the Cal Berkeley Democrats Club, we've managed to coexist peacefully under the same roof for the past 3 days. He's been really nice to me actually. For the first two days, I went to bed at around 8 and would wake up at around 4 or 5 in the morning. I've had the best sleep in my life for those two days. My roommate is currently living on the "normal college lifestyle", which means that my sleeping schedule conflicted with his a little bit. I'm grateful that he would take his computer and leave the room to play his online games so I that I could have a nice sleep. He usually comes back around the time that I wake up. He would go to sleep then, and I would leave to room to find things to do so that he can have a nice sleep as well. Having a roommate doesn't feel very different than sharing the room with Dayu, just different people, that's all. I'm not trying to sound like a cry-baby, but living on my own is pretty weird. I bought tissue and detergent for the first time in my life. Now, don't get me wrong, I was pretty independent living in San Diego, I could take care of myself and Angel and Dayu and Darren, and was capable of making decisions on my own. I guess it's just that I no longer have the confidence that there will be someone to make sure everything I do is right, no one to clean up the mess that I make. Out here in the jungle, it's survival of the fittest. No one cares if you don't have enough quarters to wash your clothes, didn't register for your classes on time, forgot to submit your residence form, or cannot pay your tuition on time because the loan from the bank hasn't been approved. Guys are more interested in what weapons to use in World of Warcraft, and girls are too busy polishing each other's nails and doing each other's hair. Most people on our floor aren't back from break yet, actually. It's the quiet days that won't last for long. My side of the room is pretty empty right now, I still need to buy certain things for school use. But as for right now, I am going to take a shower and get to bed. Btw, dorm food sucks so much that I have decided I'm probably going to start eating fast food again.
