It isna easy for me tae look at a sunrise without thinkin' of Claire, for it was in tha' early mornin's light tha' I last saw her. I had taken her back tae the stones so she could go back tae where she came from, back tae where she and our bairn could be safe.
I couldna go wi' her, she knew tha' my duty was tae my men on the fields of Culloden, she knew tha' e'en as she knew we would fail in our efforts. E'en knowin' tha' I think she would hae stayed hae I let her, she would hae risked her life and tha' of our bairn iffin it could hae meant we hae e'en a wee chance at bein' together. I couldna let her risk her life, couldna risk the life of the bairn, better she went back tae where she came from, that she went back to him.
I want tae find beauty in sunrises again but, I think it will be a long time in comin'. For it can only happen when I can see them wi'out seein' Claire's face when I do, an I wonder how tha' is possible.
