Not ABC, but the in-laws. They will be here in 36 hours. My Malayalam is not up to speed yet for public consumption. Somewhat surprisingly, the father (who knows about the two of us) agreed to me picking them up from the airport. Given the fact that he does not approve, this should be interesting. The mother is still in the dark, pursuant to the father's wishes. Hell, I might buy a pocket camcorder and sell the rights to the Bunim-Murrays of the world. The apartment is clean, aside from my stuff that has to be moved tomorrow. I no longer exist, except as the friend with a car.
We are still undecided about visiting Wooster in early June. Several friends won't be there as there is a graduation in Chicago that conflicts. I'd like to see the changes (my Boston roomie told me that the primary academic building, Kauke, looks great after a renovation, plus new buildings that have changed the landscape), but the people are what made the memories. Perhaps I'll just wait till 2049.
The new job is going well. I just submitted our first proposal to the president, 36 hours early. Let's see what she has to say about it. The people have treated me really well and there does seem to be a genuine opportunity to grow at the company, so I am excited at the possibilities. And being in such a quaint, historically restored area with access to terrific restaurants and cute nooks and cobblestones definitely makes me happy. It never takes much.
My favorite tv show of the past 7 years ended tonight. It's been but a shade of its former glory after the creator left, but it was sad to see it go. I don't watch that much tv, aside from specific sporting events and 2-3 regular shows. That number has just winnowed significantly. After SV's family arrives, I hope to dive into some good books. I've noticed how much more free time I have now that I am not job-searching, worrying about job searching, etc. So far, I've filled the time by reorganizing and helping SV with job search and academic matters. I'd really like to dive into a jammed backlog of books.
My running has tailed off a bit due to the rainy weather. I stopped at 10 miles, but hopefully I'll get some good weekends and get into the teens soon, before the summer heat. It's the only chance I will have of making Chicago in October. One of my HS friends from Memphis is moving there as well, so it would be a great time to see so many people that I am just now reconnecting with after a prolonged silence. Speaking of, it's been such a relief to revert to my more social side. Not by going out, since I haven't even left the apt for a social purpose on the weekend since my bday a couple of months ago. Rather, just calling people much more frequently and reconnecting. One good byproduct of this is that two formerly good friends from college have reconnected after I CCed them on an email and will meet up for the first time in over 6 years later this week. I wish I could meet up with them as well, but I'll live vicariously through them for their NYC exploits.
I have much more to say, things that are on the tongue tip, but I'll just pass for now. I hope that everyone wished their mother well today. Have a great week!
