It's been a good couple of weeks. Since I accepted my new job, I have been reconnecting with old friends. I feel alive again. I haven't really been myself in this area for the past 2 years, and it feels good to gain energy from this.
Not all the contact was solicited from my end. My first year roommate from college randomly emailed me after a couple of years. I owe this guy more than he'll ever know. Anyway, he met up for drinks with our next door neighbors from that first year and another guy who he once threatened with severe bodily harm that year when this guy decided to complicate a relationship I was in at the time. I bet that was an interesting gathering.
Also, I have been training this new girl to take over my policies at work for the past week. Out of a random conversation today, we discovered that she knows SV because they were in the same program and worked on campus together for the same office--this girl just so happened to finish her semester early and found a FT position with ISS. She's really cool ... you never know when you'll find new friends. Also, I learned last night that a friend from Boston is dating another classmate of SV's. I wish that we hadn't skipped the spring formal this year. That would have been quite a random meeting. Had I known that I'd know someone else there, that would have incentivized me to go. Ah well, graduation weekend, when SV's parents are giving me the cold shoulder, will be a little better now.
I'm really excited about my new job. I've already read a couple of past RFP that I will be revamping as my first project. I wish I could start tomorrow. The responsibilities are invigorating and rewards promising. Ah well, I am just trying to enjoy my last week, especially the good eating places in Rockville/Gaithersburg. Mmm, reminds me, I must return to running soon.
Speaking of, last week was my step-down week, but this weekend I am back to long weekend runs. Weather permitting, I'll be going for my longest run yet, 10 miles. That may give me a good indication of whether this October is a realistic goal for a marathon.
That's it from here. Hope all is well with you.
