Spent my lunch break yesterday studying bowling techniques on the intar-web, and made some tweaks to my game that evening. We bowled 3 games, and while adjusting to my new mechanics and a house ball, my first 2 games were nothing special (112, 119). However, I managed a 170 in the last game, leaving only two frames open, a personal best (by 3 pins, but it's still my best game, and it was with an unfamiliar ball and a different approach to the lane, so I'll take it). After lunch with WXS this Saturday, Matt P, Tom P, and I are going to head out to a pro shop Jym recommended so I can finally buy a ball. Tonight I need to do some thrift-shopping for an outfit for Wendy's 70's party.

Your government at work: so, I'm catching up on the news, and I run across a story on how the Army has to teach its recruiters some ethics because some are using questionable tactics to confront a severe lack of interest in voluntary military service. Now, I know I'm not going to be drafted, but being a do-the-right-thing kind of guy who would serve if called, I realized that I had failed to update my address with the selective service after moving to NY. I've let this slip for 4 months, so I got on fixing it post-haste. Tried sss.org. The web forms they provide will confirm that I registered in '98, but won't let me change my information. Trying to re-register informs me that I'm already registered. I call their toll-free #; one of the prompts is "To check you registration information or to change your address, press 1". After dutifully pressing 1, the subsequent prompt has no option for changing my address. Ok, I'll wait 'till the end of the prompts, and talk to a human. "To talk to an operator or for other requests, press 0" -- *boop* -- "There are no operators available at this time" -- *dial tone*. Sorry Uncle Sam, I tried. If you initiate a draft before 02/03/2006, I'll just walk into the recruiter's office. You better get cracking on a few more wars if you want to get me before I'm too old for the draft.
