Job stuff

So, I had my interview at the Las Vegas Sun today, and it went pretty well. I didn't get a job offer out of it right away, but I was really encouraged by it and may have an offer sometime in the future.

I met with two of the editors of the business publication, In Business, who went over my resume and my clips with me and were just generally nice guys. They asked me about my experience, I asked them questions about the way things run and I left pretty happy. The main guy, Simpson, told me that the guy I met with on Monday (Allen) was impressed by me, so he already had a good impression, and by the end of our meeting, SImpson said, he was even more impressed with me. He liked my varied experience, my professional manner, my personality and whatnot. That can't turn into a job, however, because the position they have right now needs to be filled before May. But I shouldn't take that as them not being interested, SImpson said, it's just not the right time right now. He asked me to send him a few more of my business writing clips (he preffered to have someone who had concentrated on business rather than dabbling in it among other things, so he wanted to see my experience) and to keep in touch so we could touch base and see what's open after I graduate. He also referred me to another position open in the company and gave me some advice, so I left with more than I went in with. I managed to impress the three men with whom I dealt with from the Sun this week, so that's not bad.

I also got an e-mail from a friend of mine I worked with on the Chimes staff for a few years who is up at a small paper in Yreka, Calif. when I got back today. I sent her boss my resume a little while ago because they are hiring as well. My friend Heather told me that her boss had told her that she is going to give me a call to set up an interview this weekend! So, that's two interviews in one week. Not too bad, huh? This paper is pretty small, but you have to start somewhere, right?

So, spring break is going pretty good with those things. I've been able to spend some time with family and friends too, which makes it even better. But it is going by faster than I wanted, so I haven't been able to see as many friends as I'd like. Hopefully I'll get the chance to before I leave this weekend. After this, only five more weeks of classes before finals (which I'm hoping my profs won't make me take)! Ah, crazy!

Have a good weekend. Everyone.
