I had dinner with my Dad tonight, and as it turns out, lots of pieces in both of our lives are falling into place. He's going to meet his "long lost" son Jason, my half brother. And for some reason, that makes me really happy. Jason has apparently been searching for Dad for like 14 years, which seems crazy, but he is 29 years old. Dad had him when he was 20, with a girlfriend from high school (that's my understanding anyway) and the woman got married apparently right before Jason was born and didn't want him to know the truth until he was 18. Dad says she was the one who wanted nothing to do with him, but this is also kind of deja vu. He was waiting around for Jason to contact HIM! Sounds oddly familiar... but what he doesn't realize is that everything is under my stepmom's name... so finding him would be practically impossible... especially without knowing anyone else in the family. But apparently they (Jason and his wife) found my grandmother in Seattle, wrote her a letter, and she gave them dad's address.
They're meeting this friday in Lynnwood, and for some reason, this makes me so happy. Maybe he can change... even if just slightly. It would be really great to have a brother who doesn't suck. I hear he even lives in Everett, and has a daughter, who is two years old, and I'm so excited to meet all of them.
I also am apparently making amends with my stepmother after 3 years. We've been writing emails back and forth for a couple of weeks. We're planning on spending a weekend together sometime in September or later... seeing as how it's tourist season on the island on which they live.
So family is coming in big spurts this past several weeks. I made nice with my uncle, met my new aunt and my cousin Melissa, and her girlfriend Sally. Now Dad and I are getting closer, I'm connecting with Pat, which in turn might re-connect me with their family... Marvin, Vicki and Dannielle. I've also been trying to re-connect with my only remaining grandmother, and my dad's side of the family. OH, and I forgot, I've been spending a lot more time with my relatives who live close by too... like my two cousins David and Bobby and their wives. Bobby and Donna also just had a baby girl... who is soooooo adorable. She's georgous, her name is Megan, and I swear, I've never seen a cuter or happier baby. I guess having parents like that pays off.
