THE EULOGY I NEVER READ
Good afternoon everyone, this is Joy writing this eulogy for lola.. I have never imagined this day will come.. that she will leave our side & move on to another world. All of you know how we loved each other.. Moreso, how she loved everyone in her life.. our family, relatives, the Church, her organizations, my friends.. Growing up, I always look at her when we sleep & I put my hand on top of her stomach to make sure she still breathes.. That was how afraid I was of her death.
She led a life of love, generosity, of kindness & of fortitude. When you gaze into her eyes, her soul speaks of compassion & reassurance. Everytime I am faced with challenges, I cling to her advise. And when I sometimes question how life can be both sweet & cruel, I am at peace knowing that she was my hero & my rock. I would never trade with somebody else's life knowing I have led a life full of optimism & laughter through her.
She is gone.. I will never be able to touch her & smell her. I will not be able to taste her kare-kare & sinigang.. She will not here me sing Sana'y Wala nang Wakas. I will not receive newspaper clips anymore.I am sure all of you here will miss her terribly in the coming days.
I decided to impart my thoughts through this letter because I wanted to share with you all that she may be gone, but her memory & her actions will always live through us. It is up to us to decide how we will make our life worthwhile while we are on earth. Our lives do not end because she has passed.. on the other hand, it is more enriched because she had led an example for us to follow. We are now equipped to continue her legacy.. This day let us release her & pray for her safe trip.. Let us not mourn for she is alive within each one of us. As she had said to me in the past.. smile & the whole world smiles with you.. Do not cry tears of sadness, let us be glad her earth struggles are finally over.
I quote: "Do not stand by my grave & weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints upon the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened rain
& I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand by my grave & cry,
I am not there, I did not die."
