GP = general practitioner aka family doctor
my regular GP has gone on maternity leave and i've been assigned to a male GP. i have nothing against male physicians but when you're consulting about women's health issues, it can be awkward, especially if the GP looks a bit like Matt Damon.
i've decided to finally consult the GP regarding my non-existent periods, which has been going for the last two years. when we moved to NZ in 2008, i was still on the pill and since i (stupidly) packed my meds along with the stuff that we had shipped, i missed taking it for a few weeks. skipping the pill has never been an issue with me, i usually get my period within the next few days. but since (i guess) i mucked around my system a few times too many, my body is confused. i got my period twice last year and once this year. being pregnant never crossed my mind since i have no other symptoms, apart from not having my periods. everything else was more or less the same.
i had to undergo routine pelvic exam, vaginal swab test and blood (10!) tests. according to Dr MD, my pelvic exam was fine. he hasn't given me a diagnosis yet and will wait until my blood test results come back from the lab. i have a feeling that i might have post-pill amenorrhea. either that or my thyroid is out of whack. (i'm hoping it is so i can take a pill, make it do its thing again, and i can finally lose weight!)
i'm not terribly missing my periods, at least i don't have to shell $$$ to buy feminine products. (i still have tons of Whisper sanitary pads from a long time ago haha!) however, i do wonder if it'll affect my reproductive health. we haven't talked about babies (i still don't see one in my future) although that might change and for all we know we could be yearning for one!
anyway i'm hoping everything will be fine and my ovaries and tubes will stop being on this silly strike!!
