Tour Diary April 1, 2007

On Sunday, we all slept in a little. All 3 of us got sunburned from Saturday, so that was a drain, not to mention the activities of the previous evening. There was a disagreement between Phil and the person he was renting the RV site from. After quite the blowout we were able to compromise by having to move the trailer to another spot for the last night, which was a pain, but not the worst setup.

After a quick jaunt to an insanely crowded Wal-Mart for change, we came back and did our laundry. We made a decision to go to an awesome metal show that was going on at a club right near Friday night’s escapades. It was a national tour with Lamb Of God, Trivium, Machine Head, and Gojira. We got there around 6:45. The show started at 7:20ish. Interesting note here: They made me take off my wallet chain which is always a frustration, but even more ridiculous, was the fact that they wouldn’t let me bring in my hairbrush. Anyone who knows me knows that I always carry a hair brush. I not so politely inquired as to the motive behind such a procedure. I had to drop off the chain and brush in a boxwith everyone else’s items.

Anyway, we got inside the club, and it was a pretty sweet club. The inside was nice, dark moody vibe, and the main stage was outdoor with a balcony. There was a good amount of people there. The show was very high energy and did verify that there is some heavy metal scene down in FL. We all had a blast. The bands were all great, the sound wasn’t so good in our spot but it was better in other places. Gojira was extremely tight, and Lamb Of God had an awesome light show. Trivium and Machine Head were also extremely good as well. I’m not used to metal shows, but it was a cool thing and I think I’ll be going to more. It was slightly comical because after the show, we walked down to the 7-11 before Phil picked us up and it was packed to the gills with metal heads. It was awesome.

Afterward we headed back to the site for our final night in the park. I have to say, that our few day rest in Ft. Lauderdale was a blast, an awesome way to spend a few days, and that it’s a great place. I couldn’t live here, but it definitely was a place I could come visit without hesitation and I hope I do sooner than later. Despite the crappy atmosphere for our bunking quarters, and some BS tolerance, this was awesome.
