A day of speed, g-forces, and of course waiting.

Yesterday (well, Friday) my friend Dan and I went to Six Flags Great Adventure. We figured it was a good day, as it was only the second week this year it's been open (only weekends except for a week last month, and this one), and also figured that since a lot of schools were still in session it wouldn't be as busy. As the day became closer, there was an ongoing chance of rain, keeping us slightly indecisive. The very thing happened to us last year, and we ended up not going, and it ended up clearing up.

So early Friday morning we're again scanning websites and television weather reports to see if we should go. Despite the fact that it WAS raining, we decide to follow through, on the chance of it clearing. I pick him up, and it's still raining. We bring a cooler, some sodas, and stop for some sandwiches, snacks, and breakfast. We make our way in the rain. It wasn't until we were just a few miles away that the rain cleared and sun came out. It WAS worth it! The gamble paid off.

So, we get there, and the theory of less students was of course thrown off by an astonishing amount of kids there on class trips. So it WAS busier than we expected. But even so, not so bad overall. There were a few disappointments. The new "El Toro", a brand new wooden coaster that holds a few records, wasn't opened yet. Also, main attraction, the sickly fast Kingda Ka was temporarily closed. Grrrrr. Well, we still had rides that we hadn't made it on last year to hit, so we still had plenty to do. We ended up deciding to make it a "front car" day.

The other disappointment was that after an hour wait for Batman & Robin The Chiller ride, and being just a handful of people away from getting on, the ride went down due to rain. The other rides in the park did too, and it lasted about an hour. After that, all was normal and back on track (no pun intended)

Rode the following in this order:

Great American Scream Machine (front row maybe 25min wait)
Batman & Robin The Chiller (front row after long wait due to rain, about 2 hours)
Lunch (yeah the "lunch" ride....a walk to the car, and eat subs while listening to music)
Skull Mountain (front row, few minute wait)
Nitro (front row, 45min-ish wait)
Medusa (front row 1/2 hour wait)
Superman (front row not even 5 min wait!)
The Chiller (back row no wait!)
The Chiller (middle no wait!)
Nitro (back row 15-20 min wait)

Toward the end of the evening, the groups were leaving, so the wait time diminished drastically, and THAT was kickass! More than made up for the long rain delay. After a day of getting tossed around like a rag doll, we left. I came home and slept like a baby :)

For the record, my favorite of the day was The Chiller in the back row. Ok, it's not as fast as Kingda Ka, but 0-70 in 4 seconds is still pretty damn cool! The next was the front car of Nitro, but I will say that I think Nitro is the best somewhere in the middle. Hopefully next time we can get the front car of Kingda Ka and El Toro, and that will conquer the front cars of all the main coasters. Let's hear it for G-Forces!
