So today I was driving into Salem to meet the guys at Sunny's, our typical Friday. As I turned onto state street, I noticed a huge amount of smoke in the sky. So I kind of started staring at that, completely forgetting to look at the traffic light at the intersecting. I'll bet you know where this is going already.
I'm about a quarter of the way through the intersection, when I hear a loud horn, and the next thing I know, a repair van slammed into the side of the front end of my truck, sending me flying towards a telephone pole. I tried to break my truck, but they were completely jammed. Somehow I managed to swerve and miss the pole by about 5 inches, and slammed into a display car at Stadium. Finally, once it all stopped, I pried the door open, got out, then stood on the sidewalk for what seemed like about 5 hours while a guy yelled at me, multiple cops asked me the same 6 questions, and a giant crowd of people gathered to take pictures with their cell phones. So yeah, that was great. Luckily, the guy that hit me finally realized that I wasn't a dick who thought it wasn't my fault, but actually just a teenager who was incredibly freaked out and that felt horrible about the whole thing. So he stopped yelling at me, and told me that it was "just an accident" and that he wasn't hurt, so I shouldn't feel bad. Too late.
Finally, after all of the police stuff was done, I called home 3 times to no answer, so a guy from Stadium drove me home, which was incredibly nice of him considering the fact that I busted up one of their brand new display cars. After getting home and listening to my dad explain how much money this was going to cost, I came in here to sit down.
Right now all I can really think about is how I came only inches away from getting seriouslyt injured. The van that hit me hit the door on the driver's side a little bit, which shows he was incredibly close to slamming into me. Then, like I already mentioned with the pole, I twice came close to possibly dying. It's just weird to think about.
I guess I probably won't be driving for a while, at least the rest of the school year. If I lose my license for less then 50 days, I'll be surprised as fuck.
